Calvin Harris Is Sliding Back On The Scene

After monster hits like “This is What You Came For” and “My Way” not only dropping but dominating the charts in 2016, Calvin went a bit quiet, until a recent out of the blue drop of “Slide” ft. Frank Ocean. Calvin is the latest artist to use Snapchat social media to promote his music, uploading videos with a new track playing in the background and leaving the rest up to the power of the internet.

Having released his last album Motion in 2014, Calvin has noticeably only been focusing on singles, but earlier this week he released the drop date, title and feature list for his upcoming album. “Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1″ is set to drop on June 30th and, true to the three previewed tracks, he’s brought in some of the biggest names in music right now:

Katy Perry, Frank Ocean, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Future, Khalid, Ariana Grande, Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, Migos, Travis Scott, ScHoolboy Q, Kehlani, Big Sean, John Legend, Young Thug, D.R.A.M., Nicki Minaj, Lil Yachty & Jessie Reyez

Everything we’ve heard so far has similar summer vibe, a lot of piano driven melodies and little to no ‘big drops’, it’s all pretty steady and easy to get into. We can see this record quickly becoming the soundtrack to most people’s summers, however, the lack of bassline makes it hard to picture this sound in nightclubs, although it wouldn’t surprise us if it gets picked up on all levels of the music scene.

Watch this space, we’re almost certain that we’ll hear at least one more track before the album release, but we cannot wait for June 30th. Let us know what you think, like, comment, share.
